Pictured: My late uncle, Robert McElhenny, lost in battle, on the HMAS Canberra in the Coral Sea. My mother, Nell Deegan's brother. She had closure a few years back. She asked me to take her to Mackay Harbour, Mackay Queensland, where the current HMAS Canberra was moored. The story goes that at home at West Ryde, Sydney, on the day she had advised her younger brother to join the Navy; she in turn, joined the Sisters of the Sacred Heart Convent as a nun. I never knew of this till that day, on the jetty, when she disclosed the feelings she had carried all these years.
