Mary Poppins... Maryborough, Queensland

I will always remember when I discovered a story in  my Caxtons English Encyclopaedia, back in 70's, on Pamela Travers.  It was no more than 100 words. To most people, now, she is a well known name.  She is the author of the children's Mary Poppins.  She was born in Maryborough, Queensland.
I approached our local press here at the Mackay Daily Mercury with this little snippet, as I thought it would make a very interesting story with a little bit of research of the history of her career.

I was waved aside, as most people know, what you and I believe is newsworthy, is  totally different in a journo's view of news.  So I  had to just keep it to myself.

Not long later, the Australian Women's Weekly produced a 3 page story of the old lady at her home in London.   I did have great pleasure in throwing the copy of the Weekly on the desk of the reporter. My comment.. "Your right...Not much of a story is it?'
