When you look at old maps of Wollongong it is noticeable that the rail links lead to a port, noticeably this one ... Belmore Basin. Just north of the big steelworks (Bluescope) at Port Kembla. I was in the "Gong" in January, 2009. I took the opportunity between showers to sit and sketch this scene. You have to be quick while drawing moored sailing ships... they sway and turn with the tide. The harbour has 2 lighthouses. One for monument tourism purposes, the other is in use.I draw with a Bic Black Biro. I have used this medium for years. In way back years, if you drew anything in pencil, you had difficulty in photocopying. The other reason was that camera operators in the dark room of newspaper offices had no idea how to deep etch and produce a halftone of a sketch that had been rendered in pencil. I had to improvise. I USED BLACK BIRO.
