True Story .. Manly

Many years ago my mum was in the habit of taking her grandfather for a swim at Manly Beach, Sydney.  Anyone from that area, at the time, the sewerage pipes went into the surf for some distance.  Discharge was not what it is like today... but it was there.

Old granddad did not have the best of sight, and loved wading out into the waste deep water.  Mum was very young. She did not have a  clue what the conditions were like until much later in life, when recalling this story.

Old granddad was heard to say.... "Gee Nellie, there's a lootta seaweed around today!"

He never did find out what he was wading around  in.
