My brother Bernie and Mum. Amazing co-incidence... Bernie had been engaged to a local girl here in Mackay. School teacher, Clare Thompson. It was a number of years ago, they were engaged for at least 7 years. Shame they went there separate ways.. It was on a particular day that they decided it was time to introduce my mum, who had been living here foe about 10 years at the time. All 3 drove to Eton, Victoria Plains, to be exact.
During the afternoon with Clare's parents .... Mary and Charlie Thompson. they were discussing their respective home towns. Mary was from Mirani and Charlie was from Randwick in Sydney.
Well that started the ball rolling. Mum was also from Randwick. One thing led to another... when ages were discussed. They both were the same age. Turned out to be the same class. HE was the kid that kept pulling her pigtails.
They don't come more freaky than that. As I said, sadly they are no longer together. Clare to my amazement a few years later appears at the door of a classroom of the Fitzgerald Primary School here in Mackay with my granddaughter, one of three at the school. i have the job of picking them up on occasions.

Sadly Bernard passed away 1/10/2009. Strange thing happened on Christmas Eve. Sitting on lounge while on holidays in Wollongong the mobile phone rang. Phone was on my belt at rear. I had sat on it. Before that I heard a voice .... Hello, hello. Iwas coming out loud. I checked the phone. It showed up with the name Clare Thompson. I answered. I asked what she was doing ringing me. She thought I had rang her. I do not have speed dial set up. The last time I rang her was in September, 2090. Explain that. My brother was trying to say something. He was engaged to Clare for seven years. I was upset with him when he blew the setup. I thought he was mad for letting somebody so beautiful go. That's life!
